About Beezi Flybynyt

Beezi Flybynyt is a Johannesburg-based multidisciplinary artist, DJ and music producer working across contemporary art and electronic music. His practice explores the relationship between sound, space and community through painting and music.

Drawing influence from house, techno, disco and electronic music, his work creates experiences that connect people through rhythm and visual expression. He is the founder of Raving in Johannesburg, a creative platform dedicated to supporting local artists and building inclusive cultural spaces through events, exhibitions and collaborations.

For SELKTA Series #003, Beezi brings a feel-good, disco-tinged house transmission - warm, groovy and soulful, blending old and new house music into one continuous, uplifting journey.

How would you describe the sound or mood of this mix?

A feel-good mix that mostly sits around C Major and A Minor. It has warm, groovy disco house vibes with soulful energy. The mix blends old and new house music while keeping the same uplifting feeling from start to finish.

What kind of space were you trying to create with this selection?

I wanted to create a nostalgic but present feeling by mixing old and new house music. It's a space where people can relax, dance, drive, or enjoy it while doing everyday activities.

What does being a selector mean to you?

Being a selector means taking people on a journey. It's about educating and entertaining at the same time. Through music, you can explore different parts of the world without being there, learning how people think and live. Most importantly, it's about connecting people through music.

Are there any tracks in the mix that feel especially important to you right now?

Yes. The opening track is important because of its message about staying true to yourself. In today's world, everything changes so fast, and it's easy to lose yourself by chasing what is popular or glamorous.

"Mirror Dance" by Afefe Iku is also special to me. It reminds me of growing up in the township and travelling to school in Johannesburg. House music was always around me, whether I chose to listen to it or not. Those moments shaped my taste in music and the way I select tracks today. I used to download music and fill my MP3 player with songs.

What sounds, scenes or artists have been sitting in your rotation lately?

I draw inspiration from different genres in my everyday life, from jazz and indie to dance music. Lately, I have been listening to Chaos in the CBD because I love how they blend different influences. I have also been listening to Lenzman - his soulful, jazzy DNB is amazing. Locally, I have been enjoying the new record by Muzi and Msaki.

Where do you think people should listen to this mix - headphones, late-night drive, dancefloor, alone, with people, or somewhere else?

I think it's a flexible mix. You can enjoy it almost anywhere - at home, on a late-night drive, through headphones, with friends, or on the dancefloor.

What do you want people to feel after hearing your transmission?

I want people to feel good, relaxed, and connected to the music. I hope they enjoy the journey from beginning to end.
